Our fourth annual gold D of E expedition through the Great Glen in Scotland
In July we ran our fourth annual gold D of E expedition through the Great Glen in Scotland, with the aim being to cross Scotland from west to east, a sixty mile journey over four days.
Participants often sign up with the opinion that it will be a change from their bronze and silver walking expeditions and nice not to have to carry a rucksack… this expedition is not an easy option however and often a lot tougher than anything that they will have done so far.
Have a look at the video for a flavour of the trip.
We start in Corpach near Fort William, there is a mixture of canoe elements from canal to open loch (some of which can be sailed if the wind is favourable), river descents, and portage around the locks of the Caledonian Canal. This can be heavy work!
We do supply portage trolleys, sailing rigs, dry barrels and bags though to enable participants to be self sufficient on their journey.
Obviously there is a full training programme which operates before the trip and aims to develop skills and knowledge and the ability to make good decisions along the way. Camps can be at remote loch-side spots with the potential to light camp fires or at sites with facilities.
The trip finishes at Inverness where the Caledonian Canal meets the sea.
“Hi Tim, I just wanted to say a massive thank you for taking us on the expedition, all in all it was fantastic and I’m really glad I did it. Thank you for always staying calm and understanding no matter what, it made a huge difference to the overall enjoyment of the experience!
Thank you again, Edie”
