Canoeing
These versatile boats can be paddled by either one or two people and are as at home on white water as they are on a placid lake. Developed by the indigenous people of North America, they are the perfect craft for expeditions, where they can carry heavy equipment and even be sailed if the wind is right. We can provide you with the session to suit your requirements: flat water introductory sessions, white water sessions, lake or river journeys, canoe sailing trips, expeditions, skill training and BCU Start Awards.
Flat Water Session
A Typical Session: Meet the instructor at the venue; here you will be issued with the appropriate clothing and equipment. You will then be given an introduction to your boat and brief safety talk. As we want you to spend as much time on the water as possible the instructions on the shore will be kept to a minimum. Once on the water, the instructor will teach you the basics to get you going and introduce some exercises to increase your confidence in your canoe. Once you have the basics, the instructor will introduce a mixture of activities to keep the session fun and rewarding. This may include: games, a short journey to an island or from the lake onto the river, learning a new skill, or developing existing ones. Near the end of the session the instructor will give you an opportunity to get wet - you can try a capsize and rescue or jump from a jetty. Once the boats are returned to the trailer and you're back in dry clothes, you can enjoy a well-deserved hot drink.
