ABOUT US

High POINTS

High Points was set up in its current form as a partnership between Alyn Griffiths and Tim Deighton in 2022.

Alyn originally set up High Points in 1998 as an outdoor education business, as such it is one of the oldest independent outdoor education providers in the north of England.

Tim and Al worked together for many years; Tim on developing outdoor and adventure education programmes within schools; Al on providing the activities, until they decided to amalgamate their businesses.

High Points is now in the unique position of being able to help schools with outdoor education across their full spectrum of needs; from initial consultation with teachers who want to develop and imbed outdoor learning; to delivering training to instil confidence and ideas for teachers wanting to take their everyday teaching outside; to outdoor curriculum based activity and adventure days on the school site; to classic outdoor education in the Lake District, Dales and beyond; to Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and expeditions anywhere in the world.

As your confidence in going outside grows and your pupils’ appetite for adventure grows we can work alongside you, giving expert advice and expertly running activities for and with you to help make your ideas become reality…

…And we have been doing this for nearly 30 years.

Meet TIM

Tim specialises in empowering and enabling teaching staff to build adventurous programmes of outdoor learning for their schools. As well as running programmes for the last 25 years, he has led and developed the corresponding training for teachers  to enable them to embed this outdoor learning within their curricula.

Tim’s career started by teaching Geography in a secondary school, latterly as head of department, regularly using the outdoor environment to enhance the students’ experience. This led to a realisation that young people learn faster and at a deeper level by being immersed in real-life situations.

Tim retrained as a youth worker and spent 10 years running youth projects aimed at enhancing employability with challenging young people from schools, youth clubs, pupil referral units, Inclusion Support Teams, and children’s homes. His focus was always designing programmes which were experiential and which exemplified real consequences, often in wilderness areas, but also which left a real legacy of motivated, trained staff in the school or other commissioning organisation.

Tim set up Adventure Incubator in 2010 to pursue his philosophy, and formally teamed up with Alyn and High Points in 2021 after many years of working together.
